THE MISSION OF MAN

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

THE MISSION OF MAN

By Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed

When the earth was perfected Allah announced that He was to appoint a Khaleefa, i.e. His representative, or a creature capable of behaving like Him on the earth. So, in order to demonstrate something of His Greatness He created man from a piece of clay, and caused each one from man’s progeny to grow out from him as a microscopic grain of sand. He says:

O mankind, if you are in doubt concerning the Resurrection, then lo! We created you from dust, then from a drop of seed, then from a clot, then from a little lump of flesh shapely and shapeless. (22:5)

Each and every one of us began the journey of life as a tiny grain of sand, and one day, we will return to the earth where only that original grain of sand will be preserved, and one day it will again grow out of the earth. Allah tells us about this in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an. He says:

From it (i.e. the earth) We created you; in it will We return you; and from it We will cause you to grow out a second time.

Allah has bestowed on man a special favor, i.e. man, a finite creature, can behave in some ways like the Creator here on the earth. He tells us about this in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an. He says:

The nature of Allah is the nature He has given to man. There is no change in the Habit of God; that is the Upright Way, but a lot of people cannot understand. (30:30)

Every human being has the capacity and capability of behaving like the Lord in some ways. He can manifest something of the Divine Attributes in his physical interaction with others. For example, he can show love, kindness, mercy, forgiveness, generosity, etc. to others as the Lord is bestowing on him/her, and all creatures.

This mission of representation is inherited and is supposed to be passed on to our inheritors. Allah says:

We made you heirs in the land after them (i.e. the generations before you) to see how you would behave. (10:14)

Every single individual is required to acquaint himself regarding the purpose for which he was sent in this world and the ways and means necessary to enable us all to manifest true representation. Perhaps it is because we are required to behave like our Lord as much as possible that He says:

If Allah were to take mankind to task for all the wrong he does there would not be a single person left on the earth.

As representative of the Lord here on the earth we are required to keep in mind the fact that nothing in the universe resembles Him. He says:

No creature can ever be like Him. (112:4)

In order for man to be able to reflect something of the Light of the Lord here on the earth, Allah created a non-physical element called the Ruh and placed it in the heart of every human being.

Because the soul is non physical, no one can have knowledge of it on the basis of reason and logic. About it Allah says:

And they will question you about the soul, say: it is from the Command from the Lord; and We have not given you something of the knowledge of it except a little.

The soul is a special creation of light that is placed in the heart of every human being. It has the capability of accessing the Light of the Lord through the Holy Prophet (pboh) and reflecting it on the earth. Perhaps, this is a reason why Allah says:

And the Light of the Lord shall spread all over the earth.

Allah made this easy for us to understand by showing to us how the moon which is really a hard black rock, but it has the capacity of reflecting the light of the sun on a full moon night. So too, man can reflect the light of the Lord as it is coming to us through the Prophet (pboh), when we keep our souls clean, bright and shining.

Allah made the way of doing so possible for us to understand by sending the Prophet (pboh) as the Universal Model for mankind. He says:

And We have not sent you O Muhammad but as a universal model for mankind.

The Prophet (pboh) is known as the full moon, and the Straight Path. His soul is pure, bright and shining light, as he: Never said or did anything based on his own lust, ego or desire. As a result Allah says:

Tell them O Muhammad; if you want to manifest love for Allah, follow me, Allah will love you.

The Markaz Al Ihsaan is making every effort to enlighten and sensitize Muslims regarding the purpose of life and the ways and means of realizing and manifesting true representation of the Lord here on the earth.

We pray to Allah to enable us to do what is required to fulfill our goal, and to pass on the correct legacy of true representation to our inheritors.

ALLAH’S GREATNESS

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

ALLAH’S GREATNESS

One of the ways of realizing something of the greatness of the Lord is to reflect upon how we came into existence. He tells us about in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an. He says:

O mankind, if you have doubt about resurrection, know that verily, We created you out of dust, then out of a sperm, then out of a leech-like clot, then out of a morsel of flesh partly formed and partly unformed. (22:5)

Allah is Infinite, and all creatures are finite; so the All-Wise Lord selected to make a tiny, microscopic grain of sand be His Representative here on the earth. No wonder why the angels were surprised when this was told to them.

Man has been blessed with the capacity to represent the Lord in two dimensions; viz. physically and spiritually.

Although the Lord is not a physical being, He has made known to us the way He connects with His creatures. This He calls His Divine Attributes (His Beautiful Names). This connection He calls His Habits, and they will never change. He says:

The Nature of Allah is the nature He has bestowed on mankind. There is no change in the Habit of Allah. That is the Upright Way but a lot of people cannot understand. (30:30)

We are all supposed to behave like our Lord here on the earth. We interact with our fellow human beings on the basis of the qualities contained in the Attributes of the Lord. For example, we are supposed to show kindness and compassion, must be able to forgive, etc. When we do so we are really representing our Lord, because we are behaving like Him.

Every human being can behave like the Lord in two ways, one is to manifest something of the Divine Attributes in our daily physical activities, and the other is to keep our souls polished, bright and shining.

In order to keep it clean and bright we are required to uphold the permissible and avoid the prohibited. The prohibited things are unclean and produce stains on our souls. Allah says:

Nay but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. (83:14)

We must always keep in mind the important fact concerning our great enemy, Satan. He decorates the physical things that are prohibited to make them look attractive, and he works on one’s desires and emotion to entice that person to do the wrong.

Let us all make a genuine effort to submit humbly to the Lord by upholding the permissible and avoiding the prohibited. In that way we will have no need to fear or grieve.

HUMBLE SUBMISSION

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

ZIKR LESSON

HUMBLE SUBMISSION

All creatures belong to the Creator. He has power over all things, and is the Being Who is responsible for bringing things into existence from nothing. The life span of each creature is fixed, and, except for man, none will be resurrected.

Islam teaches that Allah gave man some special blessings, and made his personality different, in that it comprises a physical as well as a non physical dimension. Allah gave to man a special mission that is to reflect His light on the earth, just as the moon reflects the light of the sun.

In addition to that non physical blessing, man has been given the responsibility of manifesting the Divine Attributes of the Lord here on the earth. Perhaps this is one reason why He says in His Holy Words the following:

The nature of Allah is the nature He has put in man.

Even though man has been specially blessed, he is required to submit humbly to the Lord’s directives; whether he is able to understand the wisdom in upholding the permissible and avoiding the prohibited or not. Muslims are taught to say:

We hear and we obey, our Lord; to You is our returning.

Every single human being is equal in the sight of the Lord; and each person has the capacity and capability of representing Him here on the earth. The best representation will be the one that lives the most honorable life according to the Islamic definition of what true honor is. That person will also be able to ascend high up on the way back to the Lord.

Prophet Muhammad (pboh) was able to tech his companions to live a life of humility and submission. They were taught to give preference to Allah and His Rasool in all matters. It was common among them to reply to any question or other forms of inquiries posed before them to say:

Allah and His Rasool know best.

Muslims willingness to humbly submit to Allah and to accept with full conviction the Traditions of the Messenger was in direct contrast to the attitude of people of the times of the other Messengers that were sent to them. Take for example the Israelites in the time of Moses never benefitted from the Message he gave to them; neither did they, later on listened to the Message from Jesus. They were too arrogant to humbly submit to the Lord. As a result they suffered and are still suffering.

In contrast to willing and humble submission to Allah’s guidance a person can display arrogance. Satan was the first one to disobey the Lord due to the fact that his arrogance did not allow him to humble himself before Adam. He taught that if he was physically superior to Adam, there was no need to prostrate before him. As a result he became cursed eternally.

So a person can choose to be humble and obedient to the Commands of the Lord; or display arrogance and rebellion. But each person will be responsible for the choice that he or she makes.

Islamic way of life clearly displays one important thing, and that is to utilize our limited time, resources and potentials to earn for us the best of both worlds. Allah sent Prophet Muhammad (pboh) to demonstrate to us how this is possible, and now it is left to the individual to fulfill the missions for which he is sent; and benefit from what the Lord has provided for the righteous in the next life.

THE TRUE BELIEVER

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

THE TRUE BELIEVER

BY Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an about the true believers the following:

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are:
  • Strong against unbelievers.
  • Compassionate with one another.
  • Persistent and consistent with prayer.
  • Aspiring to get the pleasure of Allah.
  • Their devotion to the Lord in Sijdah will become visible on their foreheads.
  • This has been a universal principle; as it was the same message contained in the Torah and the Injeel.
The Principle of true and sincere submission increases with constant practice. It is not that a person is godly at the time of need, and after that he goes back to the giving of preferences to material matters, and less attention to the Creator.

Allah likens true devotion to Him in a parable contained in the same verse. He says:

(A true believer) is like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thich, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonders and delight. (48:29)

It is necessary for us to understand that the non believers will never be happy with the believers and their Islamic practices. Allah says:

It fills the unbelievers with rage at them. (48:29)

The same way they displayed anger with Moses and Jesus when these Messengers invited to believe in Allah and the Last Day.

LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE

By Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed

Muslims are the best people from among the human beings because they recognize that only Allah is the Lord and Master of the entire creation. Nothing can be compared with Him as no creature can ever be like the Creator.

Muslims have hope in benefitting from the Lord’s compassion and mercy because they strive to please Him by doing what He has commanded them to do; and avoiding what He has prohibited.

Muslims know that by so doing they have hopes of meeting their Lord on the Day of Judgment. This is because He tells us in the Holy Qur’an the following:

Whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner. (18:110)

To make every effort to please the Lord will bring great rewards for all those who go along that Path. One benefit for so doing will result in the opportunity of “holding the Hand of Allah”; and going into Paradise.

Allah says:

Whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy Hand Hold that never breaks. (2:256)

Prophet Muhammad (pboh), our Leader who is also the Universal Model was able to connect directly to the Lord on the night of the Miraj. He achieved this blessing while he was still in this world, because he was free from all sins. (sins form barriers between a person and the Lord.)

If we should follow him, we may not be able to do so in this life, but will experience Allah’s closeness to us, after Judgment, when we would be forgiven for our sins.
As opposed to the aspiration of holding the hand of Allah, there are those who follow the ways of Satan. About them Allah says:

Of those who reject Faith, their patrons are the Taghut (evil) ones. From light they will lead them on to the dept of darkness. They will be the companions of the Fire to dwell therein forever. (2:257)

A Muslim should make every effort not associate with evil, and must not be the friends of those who do so. Allah says:

When you see men engaged in vain discourse about Our Signs, turn away from them, unless they change the subject. If Satan should cause you to forget, then, after recollection, do not sit in the company of those who do wrong. (6:68)

In conclusion we are to be to be reminded that good removes evil, and good and evil are not equal. As a result the both of them cannot mix, and we cannot compromise by harboring both of them in our hearts at one and the same time. Perhaps this is a reason why Allah says:

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in one body. (33:4)

This means that you cannot accommodate good and evil at one and the same time.

Every believer should try to get as close to the Prophet (pboh) as possible if he or she has desires of getting close to Allah.

CLEANLINESS IN ISLAM

In the name of Allah the Beneficent

CLEANLINESS IN ISLAM
By Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed

The Merciful Lord Who is high above His entire creation has allocated for Himself Divine Attributes which are to be the terms of reference for man who is required to represent Him here on the earth. He says in His Holy Words, i.e. in the Holy Qur’an the following:

The Nature of Allah (i.e. His Sunnah) is the nature He has bestowed on mankind. The Habit of Allah does not change. (30:30)

It is without doubt a great blessing for man, a finite creature, to be selected by the All-Knowing, Infinite Being to be able to manifest something the “Habits of God”, contained in His Divine Personality, in one’s earthly life.

Every Attribute is equally important and has its benefits. Perhaps this is a reason why Alllah made them known to us. He says:

To Allah belong the Beautiful Names: (7:180)

Islam teaches that man should make every effort to mould his personality in accordance with the qualities contained in the Divine Attributes, so that he will become a better person physically, morally and spiritually.

In order to maximize the effect between creature and the Creator, one has to be pure and clean, as impurities will prevent proper contact between the light of the Lord and the soul. Allah says:

Verily, Allah loves those who make repentance and those who purify themselves.(2:222)

Impurities are of different kinds and affect the personality in different ways. The basic is physical impurity. It soils the physical body and must be removed. In order to be able to get maximize benefit from worship, reading of the Holy Qur’an, etc. one has to be in a state of physical purity. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why the Prophet (pboh) is reported to have said:

Cleanliness is half of faith.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

On the Day of Judgment the human being will be required to stand in front of the Lord with body and soul. If the body was not kept clean, there will be a problem, as the Lord loves cleanliness.

In addition, the action of the physical body through the nafs, can impact upon the soul. It can either keep it bright and shining or the soul can be soiled. As indulgence in prohibited things will put stains on it. Allah says:

Nay, but they have placed stains on their hearts because of what they do. (83:14)
Those who are believers, and do not clothe their faith with wrong doing they are the successful ones. (6:82)

When the light of the soul b become soiled it can spread to the cells of the body. This will cause the body to remain dark, and upon resurrection will have no light in it. Allah says:

On that Day, some faces will be bright and some faces will be dark. (3:106)

As Allah gave guidance in the Book and in the life pattern of the Beloved Messenger, we must endeavor to keep our selves pure and clean if we are desirous benefitting from what the Lord has prepared for those who took the necessary care to keep themselves pure and clean.

THE SEAL OF THE PROPHETS

Upon the entry of Father Adam and his wife Eve on the earth there was the need for guidance. In the Garden of Eden Adam was guided as to what he can do, which was beneficial and what was to be avoided, as such would be detrimental to them.

Even then Satan deceived them and caused their fall. Here on earth they were to pro-create and be the father of the human species, which was designated to be the representative of Allah all over the earth. Allah says:

O mankind; reverence your Guardian Lord Who created you from a single person, and created from it (that person) its mate; and from both of them scattered many men and women. (4:1)

In his new environment, man was required to know the ways of taking care of himself, how he should relate with his fellow human being, how he should utilize the things of nature and how he should connect and represent his Lord here on the earth.

In addition to the need for guidance, he was informed that he should be on guard against the schemes and tricks of Satan who made a vow in the presence of his Lord that he was going to fight Adam and his progeny. This is recorded in the Qur’an as follows:

(Satan said), Because You have thrown me out of the way, verily, I will lie in wait for them on the Straight Path. Then, I shall assault them from before them, and behind them; from their right and from their left; and You will not find, in most of them, gratitude; (for Your mercies). (7:16-17)

One way of catching the progeny of Adam is to decorate the evil and make it look attractive. Allah informs us about this trick in the following verse of Al-Qur’an. He says:

Remember, Satan made their sinful acts seem alluring to them, and said; no one among men can overcome you today; while I am with you. (8:48)

Allah, out of His Mercies and Love for man, sent Messengers to every tribe and nation, wherever these were located in the earth, to teach man how to submit to his Creator and be aware of the deceit of Satan whose mission is to divert the focus of everyone from staying on the Straight Path.

Allah communicated with the Messengers in different ways. Some He inspired; some He gave dreams; some He spoke to; some got revelations through the angel; some got revealed Books. In addition to all the ways of communicating with the Messengers, Allah also invited Prophet Muhammad (pboh) to His Divine Presence and had audience with Him.

As mankind continue to grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding, Allah sent the Final Messenger, Muhammad (pboh) to be the unifying figure for every tribe and nation on the earth, to teach the people how to live as one big human family as brethren in faith; to pray and practice religion in a similar way in every place and age.

Allah bestowed on Prophet Muhammad (pboh) many different types of responsibilities. Some of them were:

  1. He was to be the Messenger for the whole of mankind. This is recorded in the Holy Qur’an in the following verse.  Say (O Muhammad), O men! Verily I am sent unto you all as the Messenger of Allah, to Whom belongeth the dominion of the skies and the earth. (7:158)
  2. He is the universal model. Allah says: We have not sent you (O Muhammad) but as a universal model to mankind; giving them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin). (34:28)
  3. He invited the people to Allah. In this connection Allah tells us the following: As one who invites to Allah by His leave. (33:46)
  4. He lights up the way. Allah says: And the Lamp that gives light. (33:46)
  5. He gave to mankind by the leave of the Lord, the unadulterated Words. Allah says: He (the Pagan) may hear the Word of Allah. (9:6)
  6. He gave to mankind a complete Code of Life. Allah says: This day have I perfected for you your Religion, and completed My Favors upon you. (5:3)
  7. He corrected all errors in beliefs and practices of the followers of the Messengers who came before him. Allah says: The same religion has He established for you; as that which He enjoined on Noah; that which We have sent by inspiration to thee, and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses and Jesus. (42:13)
  8. He is the “perfect model”. Allah says: You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah, a beautiful pattern of conduct, for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day; and who engages much in the Remembrance of Allah. (33:21)
  9. He informed his followers, on the basis of firsthand knowledge about reward and punishment.  Allah says: Man can have nothing except for what he strives; that his striving will soon come in sight; then will he be rewarded with a complete reward; and that the Lord is the Final Goal. (53:39-42)
  10. He is the Chief Intercessor. Allah says: And those on whom they invoke besides Allah have no power of intercession. Only he who bears witness to the Truth (will intercede) and they know him. (43:86)
  11. He taught the way of getting Allah’s love. Allah says: Say: If you do love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. (3:31)
  12. He is the Straight Path. Allah says: Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. Nor does he say anything of his own desire. It is no less than inspiration sent down to him. He was taught by one Mighty in Power.(53:2-5)
  13. He continues to be connected to every believer. Allah says: All who obey Allah and the Messenger are in the Company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah; of the Prophets, the Sincere; the Witnesses; and the Righteous. Ah! What a beautiful fellowship. ($;69)
  14. He will be the one who will visit in the graves all who die; and will be a source of light in the graves of the believers. Allah says:  (He is) the Lamp that gives light. (33:46)
  15. Through him the believers are blessed with the gift of His unadulterated Words, i.e. the Holy Qur’an. Allah says: We have without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it from corruption. (15:9)
  16. His Sunnah has been preserved so that believers learn from it the ways of practicing the Deen properly. Allah says: Take what the Messenger gives to you, and stay away from what he denies you. (59:7)

Because the Nobel Messenger gave to the world all that is required to perfect themselves as the Viceroys of the Lord on earth, there was no need for any Messenger to come after him. His mission is available both as the Complete Code of Guidance in the Qur’an and in his Traditions.

INTERCESSION OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PB0H)

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

INTERCESSION OF
PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PB0H)

What is Intercession?

Intercession is the art of intervention by one person on behalf of another. It can be done by direct pleading or through prayer, in the case of religion. In this life the living can intercede on behalf of the dead, mainly by begging for the sins that the particular person would have committed during his/her life on earth. It can also include the request to help the person achieve a better life either in this world or in the life that is to come.

The word “intercession” has its roots in the Latin word intercede which can be translated as “to come between. It can mean to make a request on behalf of others.

Intercession really comes from the heart of a person concerning the affairs of another; and is based on the principle of sympathy from one to the other. It can also be as a result of love, the desire to know that difficulties are removed from the one for whom intercession is made.

Intercession can be in the form of a plea on behalf of one who is guilty of wrong doing and is liable for punishment. It can take the forms of prayer for guidance, forgiveness to the Lord in this life and also for those who are already departed.

In the Hereafter, intercession will be permitted by the Merciful Lord from certain people on behalf of others. The Chief Intercessor on that Day will be Prophet Muhammad (pboh).

Who will be able to intercede?

Intercession can only be possible if the one desirous of doing so is acceptable by the one to whom it is made. For example, here in this life, if a person is desirous of making a plea on behalf of another, that person must have a good disposition in the eyes of the other before there will be any inclination for mediation or intercession.

On that Great Day when the Lord will manifest himself as the Master, He will not entertain the plea of any creature on behalf of others, especially those creatures that were worshipped as gods besides Allah.

Allah tells us about this in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an:

On that Day no intercession shall avail except for those for whom permission has been granted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and whose word is acceptable to Him. (20:109).

All the creatures that were worshipped as gods besides Allah in this life will have no powers of intercession for their worshippers on that Day. In this connection Allah says:

What do they take for intercessors other besides Allah? Say, even if they have no power whatsoever and no intelligence? Say: to Allah belongs exclusively (the right to grant) intercession. To Him belongs the domination of the skies and the earth; in the end, it is to Him you shall be brought back. (89:41-42)

On that Day Allah may allow intercession to be made in behalf of some people by others. For example, Allah may allow some angels to dos for some human beings. He says:

And how many angels from the skies who intercession will avail them nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he (the angel) is acceptable to Him. (53:26)

Idols and Jinns , etc. that were worshipped by people of many faiths will have no power to intercede for their worshippers on that Day. Allah says:
And those whom they invoke besides Allah have no power of intercession. (43:86)

The Chief Intercessor:

According to Traditions, only the Prophet (pboh) will be the Chief Intercessor on the Day of Judgment. On that Day, those who will be in distress will gladly accept any pleading on their behalf because of the distressful situation in which they would have found themselves. About it Prophet Muhammad (pboh) is reported to have said:

How will you be when Allah gathers you together like arrows in a quiver for fifty thousand years and Allah will not look at yo
