Is it bid’ah to read the Holy Qur’an and sing Qaseedas in an assembly?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّ حِيْمِ

To gather together and read the Holy Qur'an is not a Bid'ah as the Prophet (pboh) is reported to have told his companions that when the Muslims gather together and read the Holy Qur'an, the angels spread their wings over the heads of those who are reading.

To sing Qaseedas is not a bid'ah as it was done in the time of the Prophet (pboh) and was appreciated by him; e.g. Ka'ab composed verses about him and he (the Prophet[saw]) was pleased to hear them. Also when he went to Madinah the young girls gathered and sang a beautiful qaseeda which is sung even today; Tala al badruun alainaa.

Perhaps what some people are objecting to is how the Muslims of Trinidad & Tobago gather in functions to read the Holy Qur'an and sing Qaseedas. However this does not authorise anyone to say that the reading of the Holy Qur'an and singing of qaseedas together in assemblies is bid'ah.

Imported Chicken

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّ حِيْمِ

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

السلام عليكم

I have received requests from Prestige Holdings Ltd. (KFC) and many Muslims regarding my opinion as to whether the chicken imported by Prestige Holdings Ltd. is Halaal or not.

Before I decided to give an opinion I contacted the Certifying Organisation (IIIT); and also the producer of the Halaal Chicken. I got the following information from both the Organisations contacted:

  • Only Muslims are employed to take the name of Allah on each bird at the time of slaughtering.
  • The IIIT monitors the process of slaughtering on a regular basis.
  • There is a separate department at the processing plant to supervise the slaughtering; and a Muslim is the Supervisor.
  • All the birds slaughtered at the plant are processed in the same way.

Because of the fact that all the Theological requirements are fulfilled in the process of slaughtering the chicken at this processing plant, they are all Halaal.

Allah knows best,

Yours sincerely,

Maulana Dr. Waffie Mohammed
